This longtime New Orleans bank could start soon building a Lafayette branch

Fidelity Bank could begin construction soon on a Lafayette location near River Ranch.

The New Orleans-based bank was granted a building permit by Lafayette Consolidated Government Tuesday to build at the corner of Camellia Boulevard and Staring Lane next to The Chimes, records show.

Plans include a two-story, 9,896-square-foot building with drive-thru facilities. The project is valued at nearly $6.7 million.

Fidelity, chartered in 1908 as Fidelity Homestead, has 18 full-service branches across southeast Louisiana, $1.1 billion in assets and $769 million in deposits. Bank officials indicated earlier this year it planned to expand in the Baton Rouge and Lafayette markets.

The bank paid $1.696 million for the two-acre property last year, land records show.

Stephanie Riegel contributed to this report.
